Silhouette Layout Part 2

Extracting the Photo & Completing the Layout

Open 2 Scrapbook Papers that you would like use in the layout. Create duplicates of both and close originals. Make sure they are complimentary to each other. Preferably one should patterned and the other solid.

Click on your solid paper and drag it onto your patterned paper to create a new layer.

You now have two layers like so...

Okay back to our layer mask. Switch from channels back to layers. and create a new layer. Flood fill white. Now switch back to channels. Click on your alpha layer. Click the first button to Load Channel as Selection.

Switch back to your layers and click on the new layer that you made. Select Inverse or Shift + Ctrl + I Now flood fill selection with black. Ctrl + D to deselect. Drag this completed layer to your working images. Position the Image in the upper left hand corner.

You can actually play with this image. Enlarge it to create a really large silhouette or center it. Do what you think looks best.

Here's mine so far

Use your magicwand to click inside the black area to select it. Now click on the eye to close this layer. Click on Layer 1 (your solid paper) to activate it. Be sure your Foreground Color is set to Black and your Background Color set to white. Now with your image still selected click the Layer Mask button to create a layer on this layer

Once you've clicked the layer mask button you should have this. Right click on your layer mask and click apply mask.

So nifty! You've got your silhouette. Now we are going to make the silhouette pop. Duplicate the silhouette layer. Use your magic wand and click anywhere outside of the image. Flood fill selected with black.

Now open your Layer Style Palette.

This pretty much concludes the tutorial. But don't stop there adorn your layout with some elements, text, journaling or whatever else you'd like to add.
